The Story Behind My Site
Years ago, our YW President decided the young women in our ward needed to learn to cross stitch. They did aprons, pictures and all kinds of things until the YW room was full. She decided the girls could cross stitch on gigham squares and then we would sew them all together and make a senior quilt for the girls that were seniors. There were not enough YW to make enough squares so mothers and friends were asked to do a square also. I loved doing this and usually did a temple square and a Christ square. My wrist ended up going bad on me and I had to give up cross stitching. A few years ago I bought an embroidery machine and one of the things that impressed me was it could cross stitch!! I went around looking for designs I could put on quilt squares and one day I found a site that had LDS Temples. You can only do so many quilt squares so I thought up new ways to use my temple designs. When someone would get married I'd make a wall hanging for them but not that many people were getting married so I did some more thinking. In Jan. I asked the RS President if they were planning an Enrichment lesson on Temples. She said yes they were. I asked her if I could get the information from the sisters in our ward and make something for each of them that had been to the temple. We got the permission from the Bishop and started gathering the information. I just told the sisters that I needed the information for a lesson that would be given later on in the year on temples. On 6-21-05 the temple lesson was given. The lesson itself wasn't that great because I'm not a great teacher, but the quiz I gave at the end was great. I'd put the hangings onto the wall and covered them with a sheet and at the end of my lesson, I handed out the quiz. I told them 57 sisters living in our ward at this time had been to the temple and had their work done in 18 temples. I wanted to know who had been sealed the longest and who was the last sister to have their work done. I asked which of the 18 temples had been used the most. I then asked them to name the 18 temples. I told them to work on the quiz and I would go ahead and take down my lesson things. I gave them about 5 mins. then started taking down the sheets covering the wall hangings. I told them that I had prepared a "cheat sheet" for them to look at and to finish their quiz by. They loved it and I decided I wanted to keep making the wall hangings but just about everyone I know has one so I decided to try a web site and so that is how this site came into being.
